Would you give up everything you own to live without money?
Heidemarie Schwermer is 70 years old and gave up using money 17 years ago and could not be happier she said!
In 1996, Heidi sold her apartment and began a bartering lifestyle, exchanging psychotherapy sessions, services and other household help for room and board. This was supposed to be a 12 month experimen but when Heidi found herself loving this new lifestyle she didn’t want to give it up.
17 years later she is still doing a variety of chores for food and accommodations.
Schwermer has written two books about her experience of living without money. She doesn’t receive any profits from her books, however. Right away Heidemarie asked her publisher to give the money to charity so it could make more people happy instead of just one.
She has an emergency savings that she has not had to touch plus Heidi also receives a pension. She doesn’t keep any of it, as soon as it comes in she immediately gives it away to those who are still relying on money.
